Solar Regional Mitigation Strategy for Three SEZs in Utah: Public Workshop in Cedar City, UT, April 19-20, 2016

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is developing a Solar Regional Mitigation Strategy (SRMS) for three solar energy zones (SEZs) in Utah: Escalante Valley, Milford Flats South, and Wah Wah Valley. The BLM will host a public workshop on April 19th and 20th at:

Festival Hall, 105 N 100 E, Cedar City, UT 84720

The BLM is developing this strategy to identify potential impacts of solar development in SEZs and appropriate mitigation measures to address these impacts, in particular through regional compensatory mitigation. SRMS development will be a public, stakeholder-driven process. This two-day workshop represents the beginning of that public process. An optional field trip will take place on the afternoon of April 19 to the Escalante Valley SEZ. A detailed agenda will be forthcoming. There will be additional opportunities to attend meetings and otherwise provide input as the SRMS is developed.

A project website has been created that will serve as a source of information regarding the status of the project and opportunities for public participation. As materials become available, including detailed agendas, presentations, and handouts, they will be posted on this website, available at https://blmsolar.anl.gov/sez/ut/.

If you are planning to attend the public workshop, please e-mail your RSVP to: [email protected]. Please specifically indicate in your RSVP if you plan to attend the field visit as well.

Questions about the workshop can be directed to Elizabeth Burghard, Cedar City Field Office Manager, at [email protected].
