Solar energy development grants for lands outside of designated leasing areas (DLAs) have terms of up to 30 years (plus the initial partial year of issuance) with adjustable terms and conditions.

The grantee may submit an application for renewal. An application for renewal of a right-of-way (ROW) grant or lease (43 CFR 2807.22) must be submitted at least 120 days prior to the expiration of the existing authorization. If renewed, the ROW authorization is subject to the regulations existing at the time of renewal and any other terms and conditions the authorized officer deems necessary to protect the public interest.
