Renewable Energy Development Areas (Arizona)

Renewable energy projects in Arizona are prioritized on Renewable Energy Development Area (REDA) lands, subject to appropriate environmental review. The REDAs are Designated Leasing Areas (DLAs) and are managed consistent with the regulations at 43 CFR 2800, as amended in 2017. Planning requirements for solar development within solar energy zones (SEZs) include National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis.

• All future projects will tier to the analysis in the Restoration Design Energy Project (RDEP) Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to the extent practicable.
• Projects within REDAs will also comply with the decisions in the 2012 Western Solar Plan.

The BLM's Record of Decision (ROD) for the RDEP identified 192,100 acres of BLM administered lands in Arizona as REDAs. Details on locations of the REDAs are available on the Renewable Energy Development Areas page under Areas Available.
